Sometimes I want to be somewhere I’m not. Today, it was Yosemite. Fortunately, there’s a high-tech solution: virtual touring.

My main page had really slowed down: 56.58 seconds to load completely! The culprit appeared to be the four embedded Google maps. Let’s see how the loading time broke down (all times according to Firebug):

Update: If you don’t see maps, it’s likely that I disabled the Google Maps Plugin. Google now offers much the same functionality without the slowdown on every page load, regardless whether there’s a map on the page. Also, the funny stuff needed for CSS files is now built into the latest versions of K2.

Thanks to the help on the kaytwo Google Code forum, the Googlemaps plugin now works with the K2 theme on blogan.net.
Update: Argh! It appears to work only with Firefox. Time for debugging…
Update 2: Okay, I lied. I didn’t delete the offending line, I had changed 100% to auto. [...]
Yesterday, 32-year-old Charles Carl Roberts IV killed five schoolgirls and then himself at the West Nickel Mines Amish School. Apparently, Roberts carried a grudge for twenty years. In other words, over something that happened when he was 12! In the meantime, Roberts had “grown up,” married, and become the father of three.
