WordPress 2.7 User Interface
The user interface for WordPress 2.7 continues to change. The latest beta (alpha?), for those willing to live on the bleeding edge, is named 2.7-hemorrhage.
Newest feature: the sidebar menu collapses yet retains full functionality.

Starting a Blog — Multimedia Content Plugins
I use a couple of WordPress plugins to assist in displaying multimedia content on Impolite Company and blogan.net.
Audio player. Audio player creates an inline player for mp3 files. Using it is simple:

The latest SVN version of WordPress now incorporates the admin user interface developed in its Crazyhorse branch. Looks like the WordPress gang changed the version from 2.7-bleeding to 2.7-hemorrhage in the process.

K9 WordPress Theme
I’m experimenting with the K9 WordPress theme. It’s written by Safirul Alredha, or “Zeo” of K2 fame, and is based on the K2 WordPress theme. After a little investigation, I’ve found that K9 leaves out a bunch of K2’s functionality:
K2 sidebar modules. Widgets on steroids — K9 uses plain widgets
Custom CSS files. Nice to maintain [...]

WordPress 2.3 is Available
Blogan.net is now running on WordPress 2.3, named Dexter after Jazz tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon. I don’t expect any issues as I’ve been running the pre-release betas for a while with no problems.
K2 Three Columns, Both Sidebars on the Right, Part II
The latest nightly (v378) of the K2 theme for WordPress (which blogan.net currently uses) changes the CSS selectors for a triple column layout from sidebar-dual to columns-three.
Blogan.net now uses the following CSS in its custom CSS file to display both sidebars display on the right:
Google Maps Plugin Works for K2 Theme in Internet Explorer and Firefox
Update: If you don’t see maps, it’s likely that I disabled the Google Maps Plugin. Google now offers much the same functionality without the slowdown on every page load, regardless whether there’s a map on the page. Also, the funny stuff needed for CSS files is now built into the latest versions of K2.
