I like Pepsi but not their new logo. I’m not alone. I think Pepsi’s 1973 logo was their best. Pepsi apparently agrees; their Pepsi “Throwback” uses it. By the way, the can is white, not silver, as Pepsi’s picture suggests.
Now, make the logo larger and lose the yellow “throwback” ribbon. Pepsi, if you need a reminder, here you go.

The word “throwback” sounds like Neantertal, or caveman to me. I wouldn’t have advised it if I had been on the selection committee. I can’t even think of a word that I would have suggested, except, perhaps, ‘original,’ but even that doesn’t do it, since it tends to point to the contents of the can rather than the logo.
The Urban Dictionary gives the following definition for throwback:
I think that describes exactly what Pepsi’s going for, especially since the yellow ribbon proclaims, “Limited Time Only.” If this was a permanent change, I’d expect a “classic” label.
And, btw, “throwback” does refer to the contents of the can: Pepsi Throwback has real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.
