HerHotSpot.com Is Using Facebook Connect To Discriminate

herhotspotHerHotSpot.com is using Facebook Connect to manage their login process. According to their web site (click thumbnail to see full size):

Why? To make sure you’re real and to keep guys out. Sorry boys :)

Guys/boys who attempt to sign in get the following message:

Sorry guys but HerHotSpot.com is for ladies only. We’d love for you to join our Guys Corner so send us a message if you’re interested. Thanks! :)

I must admit — I’m a little confused. How does discriminating against guys keep out “bosses, parents or ex’s”? Does HerHotSpot.com live in a world where only guys are bosses, all parents are male, and girls are all straight? Or does HerHotSpot.com also use another filtering mechanism?

HerHotSpot.com’s use of Facebook Connect violates Facebook Connect’s Terms of Service (emphasis mine):

9) You will not use Facebook Platform or any of your Facebook Platform Applications, and your Facebook Platform Application will not be designed:

(* * *)

(v) in any manner that might be libelous or defamatory, or in a way that is otherwise malicious or harmful to any person or entity, or discriminatory based on race, color, sex, religion, nationality, ethnic or national origin, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or age;

I understand the desire to have a girls-only club. Unfortunately for HerHotSpot.com, Facebook Connect doesn’t want to be part of it. Neither does California. Welcome to political correctness.

Sorry. :)

@bretteUpdate: Guys’ status on HerHotSpot.com looks like it might be changing. Is it?

    I thought I was getting a NSFW post at first!

    You make a good point, it is an obvious violation. I don’t care, personally, but it does set a precident that I make care about in the future.

      I agree. I don’t really care either in this instance. But if Facebook doesn’t complain now, will they have any credibility to stop someone who wants to use Facebook Connect to discriminate based on age or religion?

      I don’t think HerHotSpot.com thought this through. More than a little backpedaling and spinning taking place on Twitter.
