I know of an instance where a secretary was given a hefty promotion which required her to transfer from Washington, D.C. to Portland, Oregon. The transfer netted her a pay faise from a GS-9 to an eventual GS-12 or higher. She took the job and held it for maybe 3-4 months, then requested a tranfer back to her old job in D.C. Why? She missed the intrigue (her words, not mine).
If it had been me, I’d’ve missed the intrigue about as much as I would miss a root canal. There’s no accounting for taste, I guess.
