Blogan.net was down over the long weekend. Hard down. Crashed. Dead.
My hosting “service” crashed the hard drive and took nearly two days to recover. It would have been (somewhat) bearable had they communicated. Instead, they’d predict we’d be up in “3-4 hours” followed by 9 hours of silence — yet we were still down. Followed by another “3-4 hour” prediction, again exceeded with no explanation. Finally, they resorted to giving percentages complete, with no predictions.
I think I’m back up. I lost a couple of very recent posts — no big deal. I lost some time I spent add tags to hundreds of posts. More of a deal, but I now understand how I want to tag blogan.net. It will be better next time.
Don’t ask me for a web hosting recommendation. I’m curious to hear yours, though. ;-)

Surprised you didn’t call them out by name – crappy hosting deserves negative Google Juice. Who are they? ;-)
AFA recommendations, I’m in the middle of switching my sites to mediatemple.net, and I’m very pleased so far. Their “grid” technology appeals to me, in that it doesn’t tie any of my sites to a particular piece of hardware (that’s going to fail or need maintenance at some point). And they’re a LOT faster than 1and1, which was what made me switch.
They’re WebHostingBuzz. They used to be really inexpensive, now they just feel cheap (and the rates have gone up, but they’re still less than mediatemple.net). Maybe it’s just a case of getting what I paid for… :-(
