Democrat Candidates More Wired?

I added networking links for the declared presidential candidates on my Election 2008 page.

The Democrats have more networking links than the Republicans, averaging 3.0 links per Democrat compared with 1.7 links per Republican. I only counted links to Facebook, Flickr, Meetup, MySpace, and YouTube. A couple of the Democrats also had PartyBuilder; I didn’t count those links (if I had, it would only increase this disparity).

For some unknown reasons, the Republicans also make it harder to find their networking links. Duncan Hunter, in an apparent effort to maintain a consistent color theme, camouflaged the networking links in the right column; I found them only after returning to the site for a second time. John McCain hid his networking links two menus down in a press release, and even then they are just text links. Ever the maverick, McCain also posts his videos on veoh.com and reference what appears to be his one and only answer on answers.yahoo.com.

It’s not just the second (or third) tier Republican candidates not trying to do the “networking thing.” Rudy Giuliani (I’ll learn to spell his name before this campaign is over) has exactly zero networking links.

Are networking links necessary? One could argue not. After all, the Internet didn’t propel Howard Dean into the victory circle. Yet, I think that argument is a few years out of date. There’s nothing better than getting buzz going in the voters at virtually no cost. (And there’s probably one thing they’d like to avoid: getting unfavorable posts written about them, like this one…)

So will the networking gap effect my vote? Of course not. My vote will come down to the issues, not whether a candidate is my friend on MySpace or whether I can see pictures of her dog on Flickr.

Bushies Planting More Bombs

Elevated roadway collapses

The Bushies have been busy once again setting off bombs to further their 9-11 cover story that burning fuel weakens steel.

This time the Bushies bombed an elevated roadway leading to the Bay Bridge near San Francisco after a gasoline tanker “crashed and exploded in a fireball that melted the eastbound connector ramp” or so the “official story” goes.

I’m waiting for the video from nearby traffic cams that shows the dust cloud jetting out from under the collapsing ramp. What would you bet that the tapes are “not unavailable”?

It’s clear the Bushies chose this location, just across the bay from San Francisco, to send Nancy Pelosi a message. Have they no shame?! Oh, the humanity…

Impeach Bush! Flog Rove!!

Updated: Site of the bomb blast is linked below:

“Bridge collapse” at Google Maps

Update 2: CHP released the driver’s name: James Mosqueda–clearly a Jewish name. The plot thickens.

Iraq Surrender Bill — Shame on Gordon Smith

Gordon Smith - Vote of Shame

Republican Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon joins with nearly every voting Democrat senator (Oops! Make that every; Joe Lieberman is an Independent) in voting to surrender. Let’s hope the President makes good on his many promises to veto it.

Now, how about a funding bill without a date certain for surrender and a pile of pork?

If the Democrat’s were intellectually honest about this, they’d defund the war immediately. After all, Harry Reid said the war is already lost. What’s the point of sticking around? Why lose another American life?!

Like the non-binding resolution garbage we saw when the Democrat majority assumed power, they are trying to be on both sides of the global war on terror (and bring home the bacon for their constituents in the process). Disgraceful! Like the sorry Republicans of the past few years, they show how it’s easier to be the minority party and complain than to have the power to effect change, but not the courage.

Fortunately, the Democrats’ unwillingness to govern has the potential for good. Waffle on, Democrats!

Swallows Move In

Swallow on Nest

The swallows have returned and are reclaiming their home. I wonder if they’ll have two clutches again this year.

It’s time to pressure wash the front porch and put the mat underneath the nest.

Election 2008

Are you excited that elections are coming soon? I sure am. :-) (Don’t say they’re still a long way off. With the important primaries being held by early next February, the candidates may be determined in less than ten months.)

The Democrats had their first presidential debate last night in South Carolina. Transcripts are online for your reading pleasure.

I’ve started an Election 2008 page where I’ll be compiling useful links. Still a long way to go, there…

Everybody’s Working for the Weekend

Weekend’s here. Time to celebrate!

Vote for Pedro.

Happy Birthday, Universe!

Birthday Cake

According to Johannes Kepler, a German Lutheran mathematician, astronomer and astrologer, the universe was created on April 27, 4977 B.C. Anyone have a cake with room for 6,983 candles on it?

The Swallows are Back!

On the way out the door this morning, a swallow swooped low and out the entry way. Looks like they’re going to be back this year!

Burping Queen

After watching this, I’m reminded of Mark Cuban’s recent blog entry, “You are what your search results return and so are your kids.”

Okay, I’m also reminded of my freshman year in Grainger Hall. ;-)
