Happiness is a guitar pick in the pocket.
Unfortunately, as Mrs. Blogan would note, it also results in guitar picks in the dryer.

Tell me — how far left do you have to be to call Kos a “centrist”?

Thanks to the help on the kaytwo Google Code forum, the Googlemaps plugin now works with the K2 theme on blogan.net.
Update: Argh! It appears to work only with Firefox. Time for debugging…
Update 2: Okay, I lied. I didn’t delete the offending line, I had changed 100% to auto. Fixed that. Still doesn’t work, sorta. Clicking on “satellite” or “hybrid” shows the satellite view. The map view does not work.
Update 3: Even stranger. Zooming out the map by one click fixes the map and hybrid display issue for Internet Explorer. No, I don’t know why. Issue closed?
Update 4: Of course not. I added another map (while keeping the original) that is zoomed out a little more and is in hybrid display mode. IE6 is still having problems with the original map, now displaying it only as a link. IE6 displays the newer map in map mode, not hybrid.
Update 5: Strangely enough, switching from K2 to the default theme doesn’t help. Now Firefox displays both maps as gray backgrounds. IE6 showed the same behavior as for K2.

A non-politically correct view on global warming from Channel4.
Update: One of the scientists quoted in the program is crying “foul.”
Professor Carl Wunsch, professor of physical oceanography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said he had been “completely misrepresented” by the programme, and “totally misled” on its content. He added that he is considering making a formal complaint. (Source.)
Update 2: Another of the scientists in the program has received death threats.
Timothy Ball, a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg in Canada, has received five deaths threats by email since raising concerns about the degree to which man was affecting climate change.
One of the emails warned that, if he continued to speak out, he would not live to see further global warming. (Source.)
I’d say this raises some questions about Professor Carl Wunsch’s distancing himself from the program.
If you don’t want to waste time, don’t look at Line Rider. Or, throw caution to the wind and watch the movies, then try to make your own.
Vote for the Worst is an interesting attempt to make American Idol entertaining, and maybe encourage Simon to quit. Is it working?
Newt Gingrich admits to having an extramarital affair while condemning President Clinton’s affair. That’s not going to help his negatives.
Religion is playing a large role in the 2008 presidential election. Recently:
- Mainstream media has noticed that Mitt Romney is Mormon and is doing its best to alert everyone that Romney’s great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather had more than one wife. (By the way, it’s interesting to note that candidate Romney has had only one wife, while McCain has been married twice and Guiliani has been married three times.) Polygamy in Romney’s family tree is about as relevant as Barack Obama’s ancestors owning slaves. In fact, it’s less relevant because polygamy is just not that big an issue these days. White guilt over slave ownership is. Obama might be able to bring a different view to the issue.
- Hillary Clinton and Obama preached in Selma. While the faked southern accents of both garnered respective (but not respectful) blogstorms, their presence in a church would not have been overlooked (crickets here) had they been Republicans. Or not, but that’s my perception. Please prove me wrong.
- Obama’s membership in the Trinity United Church of Christ and his relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. has attracted attention with its “liberation theology.”
- John Edwards channeled Jesus this week. Okay, that’s a little strong. He attempted to answer for Jesus. His answer was actually pretty good–Jesus would be appalled at the selfishness in America in light of the incredible wealth of some individuals. But who am I to judge? The blogosphere handled that one as well.
My prediction? Expect to see the Democrats continue with more public displays or religion while Republicans distance themselves from the issue. Don’t be fooled either direction — watch to see how their proposals align with their (non)displays, their parties’ platforms, and your values.

Some reporters get all the good stories. For example, take Robert Jablon of the Associated Press:
An Iraqi immigrant with a suspicious device stuffed into a body cavity was detained at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday and a Philadelphia-bound jetliner was diverted to Las Vegas because his luggage was aboard, authorities said. (Source, comments added)
When TSA says, “Remove all metallic objects,” they mean what they say.
He triggered an alert during the secondary screening and immediately told screeners about the device he was carrying, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.
“He initially said it was therapeutic,” she said. (comments added)
Of interest, the “device” was discovered only in the secondary screening.
How embarrassing…
The Copyright Royalty Board announced internet royalty rates that could end music streaming. I hope not. I like Pandora.
