   I disagree. That’s only true in a binary universe, but we don’t live in a binary universe. Negotiation can also lead to peace, as Bush is finding out, now that our troops are either worn out, depleted, or both. Another option is sanctions, which were working well in Iraq, until we screwed things up with a preemptive strike based on a lie, which the Bushies knew damned good and well was a lie, since they were told that the yellow cake meeting hadn’t taken place, and that the purported memo that was supposedly from Italy was a very bad forgery in which some of the dates didn’t match the days of the week that were imbedded therein.

   Sure, negotiation can lead to peace, but is it guaranteed? I think the Cubans can tell you how well sanctions work.

   And I can’t believe you’ve bought into the “Bush lied, people died” mantra…

   Another alternative is learning to live with a less-than-ideal situation. That’s what we should have done with Iraq. Their infrastructure was badly decayed, and they, like the Soviets before them, would have eventually crumbled, and even Saddam’s atrocities wouldn’t have been able to hold them together.

   Maybe you can be cavalier about the death of human beings that has been caused by the stupidity of our government, but I can’t — especially when those deaths could have easily been avoided with a bit of wisdom and patience.
