
Yesterday, at age 74.75, my mother ran the California International Marathon, her first marathon. With an elapsed time of 5:12:20 (I will update when the official results are posted), she qualified to run the 110th Boston Marathon.
I’m so proud of her.
Update: The official time was 5:12:24.

Yeah, I know how you feel. My brother Bob wanted the four brothers to help encourage my mother by running the marathon as a relay and pacing her. I wimped out, fearing that I couldn’t make my relay leg. “No. Don’t worry about me, mom. You keep running. I’ll yell encouragement from this crumpled position in the gutter.”
Bob ended up running the whole marathon with mom. Go, Bob!
