In my day (pre-Columbus), the girls wore white ones, and the boys wore black ones. I hated it, because my feet were so big I had to buy the black ones, or pass on owning a pair and being out of it. I chose the latter, but found a pair of white ones with low tops that were meant for men’s tennis.
